1997 Peace River Alberta, Canada
In 1997 I had the best experience - I swapped jobs and houses with a teacher from Peace River, Alberta Canada.
The school I taught at [a Year 1 class] was Springfield Elementary and we had over 300 students from Kindergarten [like our Transition] through to Year 3. Each year level had a class called French Immersion - the students were taught mainly in French!
It was so cold when I flew in...-37degrees.
This was my house...in the Winter months I had to 'snow blow' my drive way so I could get my car out.
1993 - 1996 and also 1998 Jabiru Area School
Early 1993 I relocated from Katherine and moved out to the heart of Kakadu National Park.
Jabiru Area School catered for students from Preschool through to Year 10. At the time I started we had 330 students enrolled.
In my years at the school I taught Year 3 and Year 6/7 composite as well as team taught across the school through the library and with ICT.
I was awarded Teacher of Exemplary Practise Levels 1 and 2 during my time at the school and also did time as Senior Teacher Primary and Assistant Principal.
In 1996 I was nominated for a National Teaching in Excellence Award and was a National finalist.
I co-ordinated many community events as well as sporting programs for students.
